IGES encourages dialogues with various stakeholders to understand the barriers that limit women and people of marginalised gender identities to access, engage and lead the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields. The dialogues unwrap new negotiation strategies and new narratives to overcome those barriers and make the Institute and other academic spaces more diverse and inclusive.

IGES organises events that bring visibility to gender issues, amplify underrepresented voices, and foster dialogue across disciplines and roles. These engagements are designed to encourage critical reflection, share lived experiences, and celebrate achievements in the journey toward gender equity. Flagship events include “In Her Footsteps”, a panel celebrating the journeys of women IITD alumni in science and engineering and “Women Staff Get-together” on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

Other signature initiatives include roundtables on work-life balance in academia, mental health talks, and exhibitions spotlighting women Nobel Laureates in science. From educational film screenings like Hidden Figures to active participation in institute-wide observances such as the ODI Anniversary and International Women’s Day, IGES ensures that gender equity is part of the collective campus conversation.
